One Direction, and Taste in Music
Watch out JB, you’ve got competition. One Direction is a boy band created by Simon Cowell. From what I know, they only have one well known song, yet they have millions of teenage girl fans. And this is why I think this is.
I think it’s because of their looks, and the personality behind it. One Direction’s members, are all from X Factor, a british American Idol. Shows like these two focus it seems more on the celebrity and story of the person, and not the music. Like many musician’s now, they are famous for their celebrity. Girls love them for their distinctions, and not really for the music it seems.
I listened to “You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful,” and It felt like a ripoff of “Summer Lovin’” from Grease.
I’m really sick of these sorts of music personalities claiming the charts. I’m sick of children my age saying that my music is bad because it’s old. It’s a pathetic reason, and can only be a serious opinion by ignorant, stupid people. You shouldn’t hate music because it’s from a different time.
Just today, I’ve gotten into 5 fights about One Direction. I was just asking why the fans I was talking to liked them. They seem to be like nothing but Metro-Sexual pop singers that got together to sing generic love pop songs.
But I want to make this clear. I do not think the people who listen to them are stupid. Every person has their reason for liking something. Not everyone might love them because of the celebrity around them. That is only an assumption from what I’ve seen. There are probably many fans who like them for the music, and that’s good. At the end of the day, we should all not be afraid to like the music we like, because it’s different for everyone else. I might like Black Sabbath, but another person might dislike them because of their sound, and that’s fine. I just don’t appreciate it when people hate music because of the culture around it. For example, kids who hate old music because it’s old. Or if a rock fan hates rap because of bling, the image, and the ideology. I don’t like rap not only because of these factors, but because I think it’s self indulgent narcissism, which is incredibly sexist, homophobic, demeaning, and rude. These are only my opinions, and people can all have opinions. Just have fun listening, and never forget that you are the master of your thoughts, and musical tastes, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
